The Ivory Ladies is companion volume and complementary to The Ivory Men. It deals with two important female pianists active on recordings organised by the Melrose brothers; Aletha Dickerson and Myrtle Jenkins. It also covers a number of male pianists who took part in Melrose promotions: Joshua Altheimer, Horace Malcolm, Roosevelt Sykes, Memphis Slim, Big Maceo and various others who accompanied the same range of vocalists.

Details of the lives and careers of the pianists are given and a review of the singers they accompanied - covering both volumes. The book also includes feedback of additions and corrections to The Ivory Men and volumes in the Cygnet series. It comes with a complimentary CD of representative material on 78 r.p.m. records from the collections of the authors and others.
